About NW Portland

The Portland neighborhoods of Northwest Portland and Northwest Heights are at the edge of downtown Portland, Oregon. These historic neighborhoods border the West Hills and contain a large number of historic homes. The Portland Streetcar runs through this neighborhood with stops at NW 23rd Avenue and Lovejoy along NW 21st Avenue. In the Pearl District to the south, it is common to hear residents refer to Northwest Portland as "Uptown".

Many Portland real estate professionals are calling Portland's north Pearl District the "Brooklyn of Portland". Historic Homes in NW Portland

Many Victorian homes were built here in the decades following the extension of Portland's streetcars along Northwest 23rd Avenue in 1889. Portland's former streetcar suburb has retail, restaurants, breweries and Portland City Hall.

NW Portland Schools

Lake Oswego is the most highly ranked District in the State. However, many of their facilities tend to be older. Portland schools are excellent to very good in NE Portland. Most of the facilities west of 60th Ave. are older. NW Portland and SW Portland have excellent schools. However, the facilities are more modern than those on the east side. Beaverton School District, which is second in size in the state, has the most modern facilities. They have excellent to outstanding schools, especially high schools. Tigard/Tualatin is one district that has two high schools. They have excellent ratings and facilities are about half of the total. West Linn/Wilsonville are great schools. Wilsonville facilities are newer while West Linn facilities are older.

NW Portland Homes

There were more than 1,000 homes for sale in Northwest Portland in May 2014 according to the Regional Multiple Listing Service (RMLS). Over half of homes sold here during the same time were single-family houses. The average home price was $444,572 which is slightly higher than Metro Portland's average home price of $389,800.
